Took my large truck in there for some sort of service. When I get it back, the back bumper that was already slightly bent up looked now bent up differently, slight worse. When I asked about that, I was told "oh we tried to fix your bumper for you" WTF? Since when does your mechanic try to be your free body shop? Obviously someone hit it or they backed into something and tried to fix it which they couldn't. I couldn't believe it. Since it's my work vehicle and didn't care much about it since it was already slightly damaged, I let it go.
Took large truck in there again. Smelled like gas horribly near the back of the box. Obvious that there is a horrible gas leak near the back, and right on or near the rear mounted gas tank. Owner stands there looks at REAR gas tank and says leak is probably seal on top of tank. Great! Fix it! So I get it back and was told that they replaced my catalytic converter to the tune of $900 IN THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. WTF? What does that have to do with the gas smell from the leaking seal on my REAR gas tank? I just couldn't believe it. And he defends that by saying "oh well it was broken". So I have to pay $900 for something that I didn't authorize, STILL horrible gas smell, and wasn't what I brought the truck in for. I had no time to take it back in and sold the truck shortly thereafter so they didn't have to screw it up again.
Great shop overall. Owner (named Hiep) is experienced, knowledgeable, and honest! This is not a low quality, quick lube place, so don't bother going if you only want fast and poor quality workmanship. It is the kind of shop that is thorough and takes enough time to do proper work efficiently. Prices are fair and honest. You really don't need a coupon to get a fair deal and the work will be done well on almost any make or model of vehicle. Very impressive!
Hep at AVI auto is great! He takes the time to assess what kind of service your car really needs. I was referred to him by my father-in-law and I haven't been disappointed. He gives great advice on when to get a certain kind of service and when you're better off saving your money.
First of all, I have gone to AVI many, many times with several different vehicles. The repair work has been spotty, sometimes problems fixed, other times WTF? The last time did it for me. I like the owner, so kept coming back because of that and the reason that it was convenient. But so many WTF moments kept building up that now, I'm forced to leave this review. I'd say 50% of the repairs went as planned, problem fixed. But here's some examples of what I've endured -
I wouldn't have gone back from that, but my pickup wouldn't hardly start, and it was the closest place to get it to so I gave him one more try. I was told that the clutch master cylinder was bad with it's integral ignition lock (you have to push in the clutch to start the vehicle). He tells me that it would be 3 days tops, and it takes a week. I finally had to call because they weren't calling me, a many time repeat customer. I was told it was all done and fixed. I get the truck started and can't get it into reverse without horrible grinding. No matter what I do, it just wants to grind. I go back in and say "uh what's up with that?" I was told that now, even though it drove perfectly when I brought it in, now with the new component, I'm going to have to double, triple, quadruple clutch it whatever I have to do to get it into reverse. WTF? I say no F'n way. Fix the car. So then they keep it like another week and he claims that he put yet another clutch master cylinder in. Same problem. You have to kill the car to get it in reverse. And actually getting it into ANY gear is hard. The warmer the car the harder it is to shift it. I was told "oh sorry, that's just the way it's going to be now, that's just the way it is when you replace with new parts sometimes" WTF??? Obviously this was the last straw. It was murder driving it for the next 6 months because it was so hard to shift and me with no time to take it to actual qualified mechanics to find out what was wrong. I finally got a day off to take it to the clutch doctors where in 5 F'n minutes they told me the reason why I was having these problems was because my firewall was cracked and flexing - couldn't push the pedal down far enough to get it all the way out of gear or release enough pressure. Yes AVI had my pickup for over a week and couldn't find that problem it took CDocs 5 min to find. I was able to finally fix it myself no thanks to AVI. Sorry Hep I don't recommend your shop to anyone anymore.
My wife and I have found AVI automotive to be always professional and thorough. Hiep is an accomplished mechanic and when he does hire help, he is careful to only bring on the best. Disregard those whining about "coupons"... Things didn't go exactly as they'd planned and now they want to hurt the business. But, for trustworthy, thorough work on your car at a rate that is reasonable, you can't go wrong with Hiep and AVI.
Worst experience ever got charge 45 dollers just to get my car checked hiep talking about it's halve price witch he normally charges 80 trying charge me 1k plus for work when I took it some where else it had a different problem from I was told and got charge less for what he was trying charge me wouldn't recommend to any one I know!
