I've been there twice with my kayaking group to see this tiny museum stuffed with accurately built replicas of traditional kayaks from around the world. A very impressive display with high attention to detail in the construction of these little boats. Recreational kayaking with plastic and fiberglass boats has grown in popularity over the years, but it's fascinating to see the origins of this sport. These ancient and innovative watercraft were once important tools for survival and transport for so many people. Their engineering designs differed wildly (depending on their intended use and regional conditions) and to see so many traditional examples lovingly crafted was a joy.
the stuff there is amazing 10/10
This small museum is extremely interesting. Went with 25 kayakers and we were stunned with the 60+ skin on frame boats, mostly very accurate replicas made by the museum owner himself. He paddled one of them 800 miles down the Columbia River. He has most outfitted with the hunting gear of native people all across the Arctic, from Alaska to Greenland and even Asia I believe. The variety of shapes and designs is fascinating. He also wrote books on it. I think he said its the largest collection of skin on frame kayak types in the world. Plus he has a dugout, a birchbark, a coracle, and a few other handmade boats. A definite visit for paddlers, crafters, and students of indigenous culture.
