Moral of the story - do not come here. This is a snobby place that doesn't stand by their poor work. After biking across the US and hitting up every LBS I would pass, West End will be remembered as the worst bike shop in the country. Damn.
After a long tour from NYC to PDX, I decided to let West End Bikes pack and ship my ride back home. The demeanor of the place is pro, and the staff seem to be a little too proud of that fact. I tried to ignore the attitude of the shop and just trust that these guys -- given all their confidence -- would do a stand up job.
Super cool shop. The owner is a very nice gentleman that is very knowledgeable about bikes. If I Lived in Portland m, is live in this shop!
I bought a Specialized power assisted Mountain Bike, if you have a nice SUV, this is the bike to match, great fun staff, they know everything you need. And you can leave for lunch while they service your bike, amazing and lovely shop. They take away all my stress.
The staff twice has discriminted agienst me. Each time making me leave 1st time because they were "closeing" and just today while my friend is in the shop with his bike one employe singled me out and escorted me out the back door telling me a complete lie that the West End bike shop is appoiment only.
Two weeks later when my bike arrived, the dynamo wiring connecting the front light to the rear light had been cut. Someone had literally snipped the wire. What were they thinking? I called the shop and the mechanic who packed it - his name is GEOFF - denied the allegations. I sent an email to the shop to try to get someone to acknowledge the damage. Maybe BRE? But it's been over a week with no response.
Helped me out in a pinch. Great local shop.
