So for reference, this is regarding the watch repair service they offer. Klein Jewelers sends their watches out to a third party repairman, but Klein is the one who will call you with the repair quote, hold onto the watch, take payment, etc. We had dropped off one of our more expensive watches for repair because it needed to have some internal rust problems fixed. We dropped the watch off, and about a week later Klein called us with a quote. $150. We were unsure of whether or not we wanted to proceed with the repair at first, but after a few days of considering the cost, we called back and said "go ahead with the repair" This morning my husband went into Klein to pay for the repair and pick up the watch, and suddenly the repair cost $250, no additional services were provided outside of our original quote. When he informed the woman behind the counter that she had quoted us over the phone at $150, she became flustered and kept referencing the ticket the third party vendor had written up, which indeed said $250, but in very small handwriting. More likely than not, she had misquoted us over the phone because she misread the ticket, but because they handle their watch repair by calling with your quote, you are left with no physical receipt for the initial quoted amount to back up what they have initially quoted you. We are now out an additional $100, because otherwise we would not have been able to get our watch back, which is worth far more. Frankly, it is hard to have sympathy for Klein Jewelers when they as a business have decided to handle quotes over the phone without a physical receipt. They need to be able to quote their customers accurately, and in the event that they misquote, they should have policies in place to where the customer does not foot the cost of their mistake.

I love this place. Old style / small town jeweler. GREAT prices on watch batteries - half the price of FM, the local grocery/automotive/jeweler big box store. Klein Jewelers' owners care about customer satisfaction. Never pressure you but always helpful. Interesting old estate pieces. They always have something kind to say about the other local jewelers. Plus, I really appreciate giving my $$ to a locally-owned small business. Good people. Good service. Good experience all around. Go here!
It's unfortunate, because I was considering using Klein for a rather expensive jewelry repair, but will now go elsewhere for fear of being misquoted.
I went in to have a watch I purchased online resized and was greeted by the sweetest couple. The husband sized the bracelet for me for six dollars, which is the cheapest I found in portland. He even set the time for me. Its the little things like that that really make the experience! Really great customer service and amazing prices.
Easy downtown stop to change a watch battery, even in my not-fancy Timex digital watch. Pleasant service and they set the time and date even though I wasn't expecting that for this watch. They have a cash price and a slightly higher credit card price, both quite reasonable.
