The experience of retrieving and returning the rental car was very easy. Portland Airport is extremely organized and you just have to follow the sign directions. Renting a car is really the way to go if you are exploring the outdoors around Portland.
I suppose it depends who's helping you, but the woman who helped me basically scammed me into insurance that I didn't want/need after I already prepaid for my rental. She took advantage of the fact that I'm new to renting to add about $250 in extra charges making it sound like things that were included or required. Thankfully, Hertz corporate customer service is excellent and resolved the issue for me, hence 3 stars. My advice is pay close attention because the person at the counter may not actually be there to "help" at all.
I do not recommend this place. They charged us six times for one rental and we have yet to receive any refund or apology. The desk clerks are rude and arrogant. The car selection is minimal at best. The car was dirty! If I could rate zero it would get a zero
Luckily I got a good deal from work. It was easy to pick up my car but dropping off was a little confusing. I had to put the key into a box and write the mileage down on my paperwork and drop it all in there because no one was at the desk. Other than that it was very easy and hassle free
Took an hour to drive the car out of the lot. Got an upgrade to full size. Didn’t like a single car out of full size tier. Went back to get my rental downgraded. Was told to go downstairs and pick up the midsize car and the difference would be adjusted at exit. Went downstairs, picked up a midsize car, had to wait half an hour to get this adjustment done... nobody would get the upgrade rate refunded to us until we escalated it to a manager. What a misery and a waste of time and energy. Never renting here again.
