A wonderful get away in Portland. Great food and drinks. Excellent people watching. A place for live music and to meet new friends in the friendly environs that the McMenamins properties are known to provide. We visited as many of their places as we could during our visit. This one was an urban favorite.
A great hotel in an older building. All fixtures and electrical is current and the hotel is clean with easy functioning ac and windows that open slightly enough for fresh air. The only downside is unlike many newer hotels you do not get your own private bathroom in most rooms. If that doesn't bother you know that the bathrooms are clean and maintained. There is no parking but there is cheap overnight city garages nearby. I really liked the stay and will stay again. It is right where I wanted to be.
This is a good place to go. The fries I ordered were way more than I expected. It is a great thing when you get more than you expected. It wasn't loud. The location is fantastic. This whole place is just interesting to be in.
McMenamins staff are some of the kindest, most understanding people I've encountered at a hotel. I can't thank them enough for how they looked out for me when I encountered some seriously strong hallucinogens. The hotel is really endearing, unique and comfortable. It's situated well in downtown Portland in walking distance to a lot of interests.
A funky looking place that's a lot of fun to stay at. Bar in basement had awesome live music. Main bar has a great selection of locally brewed beer on tap and an excellent bartender happy to share a wealth of information about the different types of beer and the beer making process. Breakfast was excellent as well! When I first arrived at hotel my boyfriend's first reaction was "what a dump." As we were leaving the next day he gave our stay an A+. Funky and fun! Beware that some rooms have shared bathrooms. Ours didn't, thank goodness!
