I will say, she referred me to Cardiology Northwest in Lake Oswego, and for that I am so thankful.
I'm so disappointed with VCA. We have been taking our dogs there for the past 2 years, each time we visit we leave with a little less satisfaction and security that this hospital is really concerned with the wellness and health of our animals versus the profit coming in. We always trust our vet and their technicians to provide care for our dogs when they're sick, however, this most recent visit was too awful for us to ever bring our animals back. My dog was treated for an ear infection in a rough, careless, and inhumane way. He was sedated, treated, and returned to me covered in his own feces and urine, wearing a muzzle. What's most heartbreaking is they put a muzzle on him while he was sleeping! He was so covered in his own feces that when they returned him to me he stank horribly. I was so upset I didn't say anything, I just wanted to get him home. My car's back seat was caked in the stink and feces from our short 20 minute drive home. I can't believe that a business that specializes in the care of animals would return a pet to someone still in a muzzle, clearly traumatized with large bloodshot eyes, and covered in feces and urine. How is that care? How is that humane?
Dr Johnson was very caring and knowledgeable. She answered emails rapidly, she gave us options but left the decisions up to us. Yes, sometimes we had to wait, it IS an emergency clinic as well as appointments. I would definitely use this clinic for my other animals.
My boyfriend and I had a 9 week old lab puppy that was attacked by another lab in Hood River, Oregon. We brought him to VCA at 9pm on a Saturday and the staff immediately took him back to be examined. It was a worse case scenario situation and the tech and staff on hand were very kind. They took x rays of the pup and immediately sent them to a surgeon to help us get an understanding of what the costs of a surgery would entail. The dog ended up being put down and everyone in the facility was very sympathetic. We weren't charged for the x rays or analysis from the surgeon and were given an extra day to pay the balance from the visit. All the staff at VCA are angels and I would highly recommend them.
My experience was mixed. Some good, some bad. I first called to see what kind of information I would need to bring for my dog's emergency visit, during our quick interaction there was literally a moment of 10 second silence, it just seemed odd and unprofessional. I was there for a total of four hours so the vet came and went many times, each time proposing one procedure or another followed by my question "how much does it cost?" She would proceed to leave for ten minutes, get an estimate for each procedure and come back with papers to sign in case I did want to do it. I thought it was odd that she incorrectly read the x-ray she took of my dog, after she talked to her radiologist and didn't agree with their assessment she decided not to charge me the $80 x-ray consulting fee. Towards the end of my visit she was very pushy that they keep my dog overnight. When I asked how much it would cost to have him there overnight it was over $800, I explained I didn't even have that much money right now and the visit was soon over.
We will never return to VCA or any of their affiliates. I am shocked and heartbroken my animal was treated with such negligence and carelessness.
I brought my dog in after his eye popped out of his socket. The vet was young and told me he had zero vision, the eye needed to be removed, and it would cost $1500. I went to a different vet for a second opinion because his eye looked like it could be saved. The vet said he had his vision and did not understand why the VCA vet said the eye needed to be removed. I am 100% never going to this vet again. What if I had listened to the vet and removed a good, functioning eye? I am appalled by the service I received - be careful if you have to go here! Long story, short - my baby is healed and still has his eye and vision - we will NEVER go here again.
