But they took care of me. They fixed my order, and refunded my money. (Without me even asking for that last part.) And genuinely sorry and having compassion throughout. I couldn't help but glow a little. Jeez this sounds hokey. But it just felt like the entire interaction was good. Mistakes happen, so Pete, pause and allow them to. People stop and talk, so stop and observe the conversation. New Season's did nothing wrong in my interaction, it was my reaction at the time that was the interesting thing to observe.
Man I struggle with this review because despite the greatness that is New Season's, there's also a bit of room for improvement. I give this review as a dude who pretty much doesn't vibe with most corporate growth strategies (limitless growth at all costs.)
New Season's is such a great, warm, refreshing store. The workers seem genuinely happy, or at least are on so many (legal) drugs that their happiness appears genuine. It's refreshing when coming from a few of their competitor's stores, whose workers seem stuck in misery. And I don't blame them! But aside from that, I have *never* had a negative worker experience at New Seasons. And I've been in them hundreds of times. That in itself is f'ing AMAZING.
By observing my inside, I was able to see a lot of the way I was reacting as it occurred. Impatience. Trying to rush. Criticizing customers and cashiers for "being too slow," or how my order was screwed up.
What a great spot to enjoy a quiet cup of morning coffee. I see and feel fall but I'm warm under the heat lamps. Great selection of tea and coffee drinks.
But tonight I had a NS worker screw up my wok order (fairly significantly,) and then I had to deal with cashier lanes that were slow beyond comprehension (with slow customers!) and the short end of the story is I came away learning a great lesson in patience.
A fairly small New Season's store. Like all it is fairly expensive and has terrible parking ... But great selection of organic produce and meats. We used to buy all of our meat here, but found Sheridan Fruit Co prices to be better. Bakery is excellent. Best Tapioca pudding unless you make it yourself at home. Very friendly and cheerful staff.
The store is clean and well stocked with great produce. On the whole the staff are friendly and helpful - the exception being those in the butcher's department. The store can get very busy at weekends. Navigating the aisles and car park can be tricky then.
So, 5 stars, New Seasons. This store impresses me, and other grocery stores have a lot to learn. Yes they cost more. I hope some of that extra money makes it to the guy who made my wok wrong. He deserves it.
I get most of my groceries here. I always feel welcome. though it can be a bit expensive, there are many specialty goods which I am willing to pay a bit extra for. Fills a good niche.
