My parents were married here in 1951. I was baptized here. My Grandmother sang jn the choir. This church is very special to my family.
Our family has worshipped at Moreland for about 14 years. It has provided a very nurturing and supportive environment for our daughter and a opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship for my husband and me.
The hypocrisy of the stewards of this congregation is difficult to comprehend. Christian mercy and acceptance certainly have no place in the hearts of the ministers of this church. While preaching compassion and love for the disenfranchised, they turn away all but the middle class. While allegedly helping the homeless, anyone professing a mental health issue is asked to bring a statement from their doctor, prior to entrance in their church.
The church continually looks for ways to serve those in need. It provides support and shelter for a homeless person, and contributes ten per cent of its income to various charities, most of which are local. In addition, groups within the church provide meals at a local homeless shelter on a regular basis, and participate in a backpacks program to provide food for local children who may not get enough to eat when school is not in session.
We have been members of Moreland Church for 33+ years. My husband is a 3rd generation of family attending Moreland. Our experience has only every been positive and enhanced by the community of caring families who have helped nurture and watch over our children. The mission projects the church has taken on is a direct reflection on the diversity offered within the walls of the church. Often times we find ourselves bragging about the wonderful programs the families of Moreland sponsor and host for everyone. We are blessed to be part of such an outstanding neighborhood church.
My husband and I have been members of Moreland Presbyterian Church since 1982, and raised our children in this church community. Moreland is a warm, welcoming place that is open to those seeking spiritual community in a Christian based church. Its membership spans many generations, and young families as well as senior citizens are involved in the church activities. Moreland has a sense of duty to serve those in need, and each year gives 10% of its income to many charitable organizations. Projects supported include Operation Nightwatch, JOIN, Outside In and FISH Emergency Services. The people of the church cook monthly meals for Transition Projects, assemble AIDS support packets, give a Christmas party for the local Boys and Girls Club and much more. The church provides space and support for community groups such as MOPS, Music Together, Recovery, Inc. and the Boy Scouts. Anyone seeking a church home is welcome to "come as you are" and to be a part of the Moreland community.
With about 240 members, their families, and many regular attenders, Moreland is large enough to offer a variety of ways to be involved but small enough for us to know each other.
